Author Biographies

Yan De-xin

Prof. Yan De-xin has practiced medicine for over 50 years. Like many Chinese doctors of his generation, Prof. Yan began his study of Chinese medicine while still quite young with his father, Yan Yi-lu, a famous practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Later, Prof. Yan graduated from Shanghai College of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Currently, Dr Yan is a professor at the Shanghai Railway Medical College where he is chief of the TCM Research Section as well as chief physician at the Railway Central hospital.

Among his many professional credits, Prof. Yan is a Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Integrated Chinese-Western Medicine and a Fellow of the Chinese National Academy of TCM. He is also a specialist member of the Shanghai Academy of TCM and a member of the Council for Determining High Posts in the Health Section of the National Railway Department. He has also been chief of the TCM Specialists Group, a member of the National Council for Determining Prizes in Scientific and Technical Progress in TCM, clinical chief and member on the Shanghai Scientific and Medical Specialists Committee, and chief member of the National Railway TCM Academic Committee. In addition Prof. Yan has won several academic awards for his special theories and treatments in TCM geriatrics.

Prof Yan has published hundreds of articles in Chinese TCM journals and is author of a number of books on TCM geriatrics and blood stasis. In short, Prof. Yan is not only one of the most famous TCM geriatric specialists in China, but is regarded as one of China's premier lao yi sheng or old masters of medicine.
