I just learned that my friend Markov Chern is bringing a group of students to Nanjing for a study tour. Markov hails from Singapore and graduated from the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine after initially studying acupuncture during a prolonged apprenticeship in Taiwan. He is a wonderful guy who speaks both English and Chinese perfectly, and his years in Nanjing have given him excellent connections for what looks like a very interesting study tour. Foreigners that learn Chinese medicine in Chinese and graduate from a university like the Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine are a rare breed indeed, and Markov brings a deep awareness of Chinese culture to complement his strong medical background.

The link for Markov’s study tour is located here. Essentially the tour focuses on TCM hospital observation in Nanjing, with a particular focus on gynecology and acupuncture. There are three additional afternoon lectures per week, with an additional option to extend the trip for another week to visit the famous herb market of Bozhou. Bozhou is China’s largest herb market, and the trip will also bring students to visit some of the local growing areas for Chinese herbs in Anhui province. The afternoon lecture topics look very interesting and distinctive, with a nice blend of integrative topics and gems of clinical experience.
In general, China is a fascinating place, but finding a quality internship with a good translator and guide can be a challenge. Knowing Markov, he’ll do a fantastic job and craft a study tour that stands out. Check out his website http://tcm-nanjing.com to learn more.
