Our esteemed colleague Marnae Ergil recently shared a link to a fascinating article that links the human skeletal bones to male fertility.  This article, reported in the journal Cell, suggests that the bones affect the endocrine system in ways that were not previously recognized.  The authors note: "Our findings expand the biological importance of osteocalcin, begin to unravel its molecular mode of action, and provide the first evidence that the skeleton is an endocrine regulator of fertility."  This apparent link between male fertility and the bones is fascinating because Chinese medicine has linked the kidney and essence with both the bones and reproduction for over 1800 years.

The full text of the article is available online for free at this link.  The article is a fascinating read.  Among other findings, the authors discovered that a molecule secreted by osteoblasts called osteocalcin enhances the production of testosterone.  Check it out!
