Below are photographs that show two of the most commonly confused medicinals in Chinese medicine. These medicinals are most commonly mixed up in Southern China. Most Chinatown pharmacies in the U.S. are run by Cantonese herbalists, and the substitute products are actually more common than the authentic products in the U.S. (Southern substitutes are abundant in Hong Kong and other regions as well).
