This medicinal is commonly confused in the marketplace. It has bright red veins that have a shape like bicycle spokes (they come in towards the center).
Many pharmacies confuse this product with Ji Xue Teng. The two have totally different properties, so they should be properly differentiated.
In this case, the substitute is a key medicinal in its own right. It is incorrect when used as Ji Xue Teng, but it is the authentic form of the medicinal Da Xue Teng (also known as Hong Teng).
