Other Name: Ma Xing Shi Gan Wan - modified, Gypsum and Licorice Decoction
Ingredients (Pin Yin): Shi gao, Xing ren, Bai qian, Gan cao
Ingredients: Gypsum fibrosum mineral, Prunus armeniaca seed, Cynanchum stauntonii rhizome, Glycyrrhiza uralensis root
Other Ingredients: Talcum, Activated carbon, Botanical wax
TCM Functions: Clears Heat, Dissolves Phlegm, Descends and Disperses Lung Qi
Standard Dosage: 8 pills, 3 x per day
Clinical Dosage: Administer half an hour before or one hour after eating. In the initial phases, dosage may be increased to 8-12 pills every 2-4 hours, then reduced to a maintenance dose as the formula takes effect. May be used short-term for few days to a few weeks. This is a cold formula, and can easily damage the Spleen and Stomach Qi. Once acute signs of Lung heat are resolved, this formula should be discontinued and replaced with a milder formula.Contraindications (all):
Contraindicated for conditions due to excess cold or Qi deficiency. Shi gao/gypsum is a very cold medicinal and can injure the Spleen and Stomach Qi and/or Yang when taken for too long or in excessive amounts.
